Dr. Kim Hellemans is a teaching professor and current Chair of the Department of Neuroscience at Carleton University. She received her Master’s and Ph.D. from Queen’s University, where her research focused on understanding the biological basis of drug addiction. She went on to complete post-doctoral positions at Cambridge University and University of British Columbia prior to taking a position at Carleton University in 2008. She has received several prestigious teaching awards that recognize her passion and dedication to university teaching, including the Provost’s Fellowship in Teaching Award and the Capital Educator’s Award. She is also dedicated to science communication and knowledge translation and has produced several animations on topics related to neuroscience, addiction and mental health, and is a highly sought-after guest speaker. Her current research is focused on understanding the links between cannabis use, stress, and mental health among university students.
